Solution Train Execution Competency

Why is the Solution Train Execution Competency important?

Organizations may implement Solution Trains for a variety of reasons. While some Solution Trains are formed by new ARTs and Agile Teams to address a large initiative, others are formed by combining existing ARTs and teams. This is common in organizations that have been using SAFe for some time and recognize the need to reorganize around value. In cases where the Solution Train is formed from existing ARTs, teams may have a mature backlog, roadmap, Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP), and other assets, which should be coordinated over time to deliver the Solution Train vision and backlog.

The Solution Train is a primary organizational structure used to coordinate the work of multiple ARTs and suppliers. Solution Trains deliver value that can range from core banking applications in global financial institutions to jet fighters and satellite systems. The principles, practices, and abilities required by enterprises that build these systems-of-systems go beyond those of a single ART.
